Autumn 2007: travel bursaries
The second seminar THE FAR WEST will be held on Friday 26 October at Arnolfini, Bristol, from 11am to 6pm, in the Light Studio. Tickets £10/£5 concs, including lunch.
Curatorial Network is offering travel and accommodation bursaries to curators living and working in the South West who wish to attend its seminars. The bursaries are intended to assist with costs for independent practitioners or small organisations and it is not anticipated that they will be awarded to revenue funded or larger organisations.
Curators wishing to attend the seminar THE FAR WEST on 26 October and who would like help with travel and accommodation costs should send the application form by email to zoe.shearman@relational.org.uk
Decisions will be made by Relational (Zoe Shearman) and Arnolfini (Tom Trevor) with KURATOR on the basis of geographical spread/financial need.
The maximum bursary will be £70.

Spring 2007: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
4, 11, 16 April 2007 from 11.00am – 5.00pm.
Sessions are free of charge. Application is essential.
During the period of his residency, Sergio Edelsztein will lead three whole-day professional development sessions at Dartington College of Arts in relation to the public seminar Curating the Other: The Curator as Tourist.
Edelsztein will work with a maximum of 17 students and professionals from across the South West. The participants will develop a critical mapping of the art world focusing on curatorial enterprises that are perceived by the public as ‘representative’ of foreign culture. Participants will have the opportunity to research and discuss international curatorial methodologies and elucidate the motives, mechanisms and interests behind the processes of ‘selection’ and ‘presentation’.
The professional development sessions are free of charge but participants need to cover all their own travel and subsistence costs. Participants will need to be available to attend all three sessions.

PUBLIC SESSION / NETWORKING EVENT
Friday 20 April 2007, 4 pm – 7 pm
The Gallery at Dartington College of Arts
The event is free of charge. Booking is essential.
An afternoon public event where participants of the professional development sessions will share the outcome of their research with other curators including the guest speakers of the public seminar. The session will also be a public networking event. Refreshments will be provided.

The curatorial residency will conclude with a public seminar at Dartington College of Arts on Saturday 21 April, where Sergio Edelsztein will discuss his findings with an international panel of curators; Paul Domela (Liverpool, UK), Yacouba Konaté (Abidjan, Ivory Coast) and Shaheen Merali (Berlin, Germany). The seminar will be chaired by Professor Antonia Payne (Dean of Research at Dartington College of Arts).

INTERNATIONAL VISITS
Documenta 12 and Skulptur Projekte Munster, June 2007
The South West’s Curatorial Network is organising a visit to Documenta 12 and the Munster sculpture project. The group will be travelling from Bristol on 14 June for the opening days of Documenat 12 on the 15-17 June and then onto Munster for 18 and 19 June, returning to Bristol on 20 June.
Curatorial Network is now inviting applications from curators in the South West who would like to go on this visit. A contribution to costs will be expected but the majority of costs will be funded by Arts Council England South West.
