Text = Curatorial Residency Winter 2008 = **BASAK SENOVA** 19 January – 9 February 2008 hosted by [[http://www.plymouthac.org.uk:Plymouth Arts Centre]] and [[http://www.i-dat.org:i-DAT]], UK **Resume** [[http://www.nomad-tv.net/basak_senova.html:Basak Senova]] is a curator, writer and designer based in Istanbul. She holds an MFA in Graphic Design and a PhD in Art, Design and Architecture from Bilken University, and is active internationally with art and technology related projects: she attended the 7th Curatorial Training Programme of Stichting De Appel, Amsterdam in 2002; has been publishing papers on art, technology and mass media since 1995, and frequently gives lectures, she has initiated projects and curated exhibitions in Turkey and abroad since 1996; she was the editor of 'art-ist 6'; she is one of the founding members of [[http://www.nomad-tv.net/:NOMAD TV]] and recently started 'Upgrade!Istanbul'. Her most recent curatorial projects include 'ctrl-alt-del' sound art project series (since 2003), 'NOMAD-TV.network 01', 'loosing.ctrl', 'Serial Cases', 'under.ctrl', 's-network', 'Kontrol-online magazine' and 'the Container' project. **Residency** The residency explores the potential of online environment and social networking tools as mechanisms for generating cultural exchange. The particular focus of the residency is on ideas of cross-cultural generosity, sharing, communication and social interaction in contemporary curatorial practice. Using the Curatorial Network’s online resources including discussion list and website as a research platform, Senova will initiate a debate about curatorial exchanges and develop a map of curatorial network in the region and internationally. In this way she will also map parallel cases and counter-actions that are linked to contemporary art practices that set new modes and channels for social, political and cultural information flow. The debate generated through the residency will conclude with development of a seminar programme on the 25 April including confirmed speaker [[http://web.mit.edu/vap/people/faculty/faculty_bauer.html:Ute Meta Bauer]] (MIT, US). Further information on the seminar including travel bursaries to be released soon. This residency has been developed as part of an ongoing collaboration between Plymouth Arts Centre and i-DAT, and part of a new series of projects and residencies, exploring new systems and technologies that challenge traditional models of creation and consumption of art. Artists Stanza (UK) and Cadu (Brazil) and curator Basak Senova (Turkey) are resident at both organisations exploring new work and commissions and developing a seminar. In partnership with Scan and Media Space as part of Distributed South Residencies, Curatorial Network and Arts Council England’s International Fellowships Programme.
