Dear All,

Fresh from yesterday¹s seminar ŒCurating the Other: Curator as Tourist¹ that
launched the Curatorial network programme at the Dartington College of Arts
(UK), I thought I would share some brief comments with the List and for the
benefit of those who did not attend.

The seminar was as part of Sergio Edelsztein¹s three-week curatorial
research residency organised by Spacex and the Dartington College of Arts.
The panel of speakers included: Sergio Edelsztein (Director of Centre of
Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv, Israel), Paul Domela (Programme Director of
the Liverpool Biennial, UK), Yacouba Konaté (Artistic Director of Dak¹Art
2006, the 7th Biennial of Contemporary African Art and Professor at the
University of Concody, Abidjan, Ivory Coast) and Matei Bejenaru (Artist,
Director of Periferic Biennial, Iasi, Romania), chaired by Professor Antonia
Payne (Dean of Research at Dartington College of Arts).

The event was truly excellent: the presentations were focused but at the
same time provided a broad spectrum of approaches to the topic posed by
Sergio, and managed to generate plenty of responses from the audience. The
discussion, moderated by Sergio and Antonia, was stimulating intellectually,
sufficiently open and long to involve everyone a rare luxury in a normally
rushed and tightly scheduled events. Many of the curators involved in the
network attended and contributed to discussions.

We will be shortly be posting brief summaries and copies of some seminar
talks in pdf format, as well as summaries of research following a
professional development session run by Sergio during the residency. Seminar
video documentation and some talks in pdf format will be soon available from
the http://www.curatorial.net website and I¹d also like to invite people to
continue perhaps this discussion on the list.

greetings
joasia
