PETER J. EVANS

PERFORMANCE:

Our understanding of things

CCANW, Haldon Forest Park, Exeter
  Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 July 11am – 5pm, free

Everything moves, shifts - from place to place or time to time - the
gradual transformation of matter into matter into matter.
Thoughts become words, stones become water: decay of one forming the
particles that make up the other.

To mark the end of his solo exhibition 'Feedbacker' at SPACEX, Peter
J. Evans will perform a new work titled 'Our understanding of things'
in Haldon Forest Park. The performance focuses on the process of decay,
the gradual turning into dust, the disappearance of a solid form, but
the continuation of energy beyond that point. A piece of timber will be
planed down until nothing remains other than the shavings on the floor.
Being the same size as the artist the timber will carry associations
beyond its own, becoming a metaphor for the loss everything goes
through, slowly over time losing forms and meanings, but taking on new
shapes and ideas. This altering of form will be visible in each new
layer of wood revealed and each shaving on the floor before they are
placed on a small fire - it’s vapours becoming lost in the air.
