Subject: ProjectBase Workshop
ProjectBase workshop
Sunday 8 July 12pm to 5pm
Paraeducation, Activism and Art led by curator Annie Fletcher
The Exchange, Penzance
Focusing on the curator as producer¹, this will be the first workshop in
the Locating the Producers series of public events, which will investigate
curatorial methodologies and contemporary art commissioning processes over
the next three years. Amsterdam based curator Annie Fletcher will lead this
curatorial workshop as an extension of her on-going project Paraeducation
with artist Sarah Pierce. The Workshop will explore a series of provocative
questions: What is a Producer? What is an organisation? What is
Self-organisation? How do activist and educational strategies relate to
artistic practice today?
Though places are available for booking, the structure of the workshop will
be closed. There will be no 'audience' present in that all participants will
be asked to respond to a series of terms devised and selected by Pierce and
Fletcher relating to this topic in a convivial and informal setting. The
workshop will be employed to activate a critical think-tank around issues of
production, organisation and community formation. By bringing together an
identified group of chosen specialists to share their experiences with
invitees and interested professionals working in Cornwall and the
South-West, it aspires to build on previous research carried out by Fletcher
and Pierce.
By focusing on the leading question What is a Producer?¹ in the context of
art-making, commissioning, self-organisation and information exchange, the
workshop will situate key terms within the context of a number of case
studies provided by the Workshop leader. For example, Fletcher will present
the commissioning methodologies used in her projects alongside examples
provided by a small number of invited presenters who will be scheduled to
speak as part of the event. A list of individuals who will be present on the
day include Can Altay, Will Bradley, Tone O. Nielsen, Jason Coburn,
Frederique Bergholtz, Superflex, Surasi Kusolwong and others, who have been
invited to share their experience and knowledge with Cornwall-based curators
and artists.
Places are limited so we advise booking as soon as possible. For further
information and a booking form, go to www.situations.org.uk
