*RO-MD/Moldova in Two Scenarios *
Period: May – October 2008
Project partners: KSAK Center for Contemporary Art, Chisinau, Moldova and
VECTOR Association, Iasi, Romania
*RO-MD/Moldova in Two Scenarios* is a collaboration project between
Contemporary Art Center from Chisinau and VECTOR Association from Iasi that
consist in a series of interdisciplinary workshops, production of 3
documentary films ( one film will be produced by VECTOR and 2 others by KSAK
Center ), 2 theoretical seminars that will take place in Iaşi and Chisinau
(July and October, 2008), a project publication and final exhibition
produced by KSAK Center in Chisinau, Moldova (October, 2008). The project
results will be also shown in the frame of 8 Periferic Biennale organized by
VECTOR in Iasi, Romania (October, 2008).
The project aim is to investigate by juxtaposing the current cultural,
social and political situation in two Moldova regions. The project will
comment upon the former and current conditions of two patterns:
post-socialist and post-soviet of two societies decades after the collapse
of eastern block and dismantling of Soviet Union. In the same time the
project team will look closely in to the future scenarios of the society's
in question. The project team will investigate the contexts of two Moldova
regions, one being part of Romania, a new EU member state, and the other, a
post-soviet independent republic. After the Second World War, the two
regions "experienced" different "ways"/evolutions of socialism, the
Ceausescu dictatorship in Romania characterized by protocronist nationalism
applied on gated socialism and the "Brejnev soviet style" which was replaced
later by Gorbatchev's Perestroika and Glasnost in Republic of Moldova. These
and other aspects related to the development of two regions will be analyzed
during the interdisciplinary workshop sessions and also during theoretical
seminars that will take place in Iasi, Romania and Chisinau, Moldova with
invited participants from Romania, Moldova, Germany, Holland, Hungary and
South Korea.
