Hi

This may link into ARCOs (International Contemporary Art Fair, Madrid)theme
for proposals this year, in relation to issues of online curatorial
platforms and tools.

I am curating an exhibition in Wimbledon where I am exploring the theme of
Viktor Shklovsky's concept of 'defamiliarization'. It is a 3 part
exhibition. The first one was a collection of responses in text form
associated with the word 'defamiliarization' submitted from other local
artists. The second (Wimbledon) is a collection of responses from different
artists from around the globe. The words from exhibition 1 have been passed
onto another artist who will then alter/ re-interpret/ re-do the given words
and send a photo of the altered words back to me in location of their city/
country.

The collection of photographs will be displayed at the exhibition.
The third exhibition sees the 'defamiliarized' words being returned to the
original artists.

Questions arising from the project is how the accessibility of reaching
artists from local, national to international level has been performed
through electronic communication. This project is an experimental of
curatorial strategy.

If you have any thoughts on this curatorial strategy, electronic
communication or the concept of 'defamiliarization' I would appreciate your
comments.

Thank you
Diana Ali (UK)
