Dear All
Please save the date for the next event in the series of Arts & Ecology
EXCHANGES:
Wednesday 2 April 2008
6pm at the RSA, 8 John Adam Street, WC2N 6EZ
Culture in a Time of Waste
Speakers: Artist Michael Landy, Journalist Neil Boorman, Professor Daniel
Miller, Professor of Material Culture, University College London
Chaired by Matthew Taylor, Chief Exectutive, RSA
This exchange will explore current concerns about climate change and address
the apparent unwillingness to change behaviour in order to prevent
environmental disaster. These questions arise against a background of rapid
economic growth, with high levels of consumption and waste.
We also face unprecedented population increase, which has been identified as
the biggest challenge of our time by Jeffrey Sachs in this year¹s Reith
Lectures.
Do we maintain freedom of choice, perhaps at the expense of death to the
planet? Can we change behaviour and if so, how?

Poison and Antidote
Saturday 29 March 2008, Whitechapel Gallery, London
Poison and Antidote is a day of asking questions and finding solutions
organised by Friends of the Earth and Whitechapel Gallery. The event is
inspired by Cornelia Parker¹s film Chomskian Abstract which can be seen at
the Whitechapel until 30 March. Artists, academics, comedians, scientists,
activists and opinion makers will reflect on the environment, art and
politics and respond to questions posed by the public. As part of this
event, Michaela Crimmin, RSA Head of Arts, will explore the role of artists
and curators in inspiring change together with artist Heather Ackroyd.
